Calm pregnancy and birth

Feel calmer, more confident and ready for the journey ahead.

Pregnancy is a special time of change, anticipation and preparation. As you get ready to welcome your baby, taking time for yourself can help you focus on your wellbeing, nurture a positive mindset and look ahead with confidence.

At Calm by Victoria, I offer pregnancy and birth preparation sessions using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy techniques, alongside relaxation, positive visualisation and gentle hypnosis. Together, we can explore how you would like to feel during pregnancy and as you approach birth, helping you develop practical tools to support your wellbeing along the way.

How can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy support you
through pregnancy and birth?

Every pregnancy and birth is unique. Taking the time to prepare, mentally and emotionally, can help you focus on how you would like to feel, recognise your strengths and approach this new chapter with greater confidence.

Drawing on my Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training and CPHT Calm Pregnancy and Birth training, sessions combine practical techniques with relaxation and positive visualisation to help you develop tools you can use throughout pregnancy and as you prepare for birth. Together, we'll explore what feeling calm, confident and prepared means to you, and the small steps that can help you move towards it.

Relaxation and breathing

Learn gentle breathing and relaxation techniques to help you slow down, switch off from everyday distractions and create moments of calm. These are simple tools you can practise throughout pregnancy and return to whenever you'd like some time to yourself.

Positive visualisation

Take time to imagine how you'd like to feel as you approach birth. Guided visualisation can help you focus on feelings of calm, confidence and being supported, while connecting with the strengths and resources you already have.

Recognise the qualities, experiences and strengths you can draw upon as you prepare for your baby's arrival. We will explore what helps you feel capable and supported, and how you can build on these feelings.

What are calm pregnancy and birth sessions?

Pregnancy relaxation and birth preparation sessions offer you time to focus on your wellbeing, develop a positive mindset and prepare emotionally for the journey ahead. Using techniques from Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, alongside relaxation, breathing and positive visualisation, we explore how you would like to feel during pregnancy and as you approach birth. My approach is gentle, collaborative and focused on you.

How can Solution Focused Hypnotherapy help during pregnancy?

Pregnancy can bring a mixture of excitement, change and uncertainty. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you focus on your strengths, build confidence and develop practical ways to manage stress and anxious thoughts. Sessions also provide time to relax, focus on the present and nurture a more positive outlook as you prepare to welcome your baby. You also learn practical tools and techniques to use during labour and birth to help you feel calm, supported and more in control.

Do I need to be feeling anxious about pregnancy or birth to benefit from a session?

Not at all. You might be feeling anxious or worried about pregnancy or giving birth, but you might simply want to make time for yourself, feel more relaxed during pregnancy or approach the weeks ahead with greater confidence. Sessions are tailored to your individual needs and what you would like to get from them.

When should I start calmer pregnancy and birth sessions?

There is no single right time. You may find it helpful to begin during pregnancy when you feel ready to make time for your wellbeing and preparation. Starting earlier can give you more time to practise relaxation techniques, although you can get in touch at any stage to discuss whether sessions would be suitable for you.

What happens during a session?

Sessions combine solution-focused conversation with relaxation techniques. We explore how you would like to feel, identify the strengths and resources you already have, and consider small, practical steps that support your wellbeing. Depending on your needs, sessions may also include breathing exercises, positive visualisation and gentle hypnosis to help you relax.

What does hypnosis feel like? Will I be in control?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention and relaxation. You remain aware of your surroundings and can hear, think and respond throughout the session. During hypnosis, you remain awake, aware and in control. It's a natural state of focused relaxation, allowing you to take a pause from everyday distractions and engage with positive suggestions. You can practise the techniques between sessions, building your own collection of tools to draw on throughout pregnancy and as you prepare for birth.

Can sessions help if I am anxious of giving birth?

If you are feeling worried or anxious about birth, sessions can provide a supportive space to explore those feelings and focus on what may help you feel more prepared. We can work on increasing feelings of relaxation, building confidence and creating helpful ways of responding to anxious thoughts. If your fears are intense or significantly affecting your wellbeing, it is also important to discuss them with your midwife or maternity team so you can access appropriate support.

Is this the same as a hypnobirthing course?

No. I offer individual pregnancy relaxation and birth preparation sessions using techniques informed by Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and calm pregnancy and birth training. These include relaxation, positive visualisation and gentle hypnosis.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes, in-person sessions are available at Avenue3 Wellness in Highams Park, East London. Online sessions are available via Zoom, allowing you to take part from the comfort of your own home.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your individual needs, preferences and how much time you have before your baby arrives. We can discuss what you hope to gain from sessions during your initial consultation and agree on an approach that feels right for you. There is no fixed number of sessions that is right for everyone.

Can these sessions replace my midwife or antenatal care?

No, these sessions are intended to complement your pregnancy care, not replace advice or treatment from your midwife, GP or maternity team. They do not guarantee a particular birth experience or outcome. Please continue to attend your antenatal appointments and speak to your maternity team about any medical concerns.
