Frequently asked questions
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution focused hypnotherapy combines practical talking therapy, neuroscience, and hypnosis to focus on your preferred future, helping you move forwards.
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No, you remain fully aware and in control at all times. Hypnosis/trance is a natural, relaxed state where you can still hear, think, and respond if needed. During the day, we go in and out of trance all the time, when we are driving a regular route to work, watching tv, taking a walk, etc.
Can I be made to do something against my will?
No, you cannot be made to do anything against your will. Hypnotherapy works with your cooperation and desire for positive change.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Most people describe it as a deeply relaxing state, similar to daydreaming or being absorbed in a book or film, where your mind feels calm but you are in a deep state of focus.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies, depending on your goals. Most clients begin to notice positive changes within the first few sessions, on average clients have between 6-12 sessions (for something like a simple phobia, this can be less, usually around 3-4 sessions). We will discuss a plan tailored to your needs.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive approach when practised by a qualified professional.
Do I need to prepare for a session?
No specific preparation is needed, although it can helpful to come with an open mind and a clear idea of what you would like to achieve from the sessions. For online sessions a good, reliable internet connection is required, in a private, quiet space. You might also like to have an armchair or sofa to sit or lie on during the trance part of the session.
How do online sessions work?
Sessions are conducted via Zoom, meaning you get the benefits of effective hypnotherapy in the comfort of your own home.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Everyone can experience hypnosis if they are willing and open to the process. It is a natural state that we all enter in everyday life.
Is hypnotherapy a replacement for medical treatment?
No, hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical or psychological treatment. You should always consult your GP for medical concerns.
